A Dad’s Perspective ~

“I didn’t think we needed her, but we did!”  — Christopher Loock

What Moms are Saying ~

“I knew that I wanted a birth doula to assist with my baby’s birth, but I had no idea how important her role would be. Tiffany is a uniquely thoughtful and intuitive person who took the time to deeply listen to my husband and me. In addition to wanting to fully understand our birth preferences, she sought to support my husband in fulfilling the active role he desired and helped us both think through possible considerations we might face during labor. Tiffany established an environment in which I felt extremely safe and supported, both emotionally and physically. She is an experienced childbirth educator, and I think that is a highly valuable attribute for a birth doula. She helped me to do most of my laboring at home, which was important to me, and she knew when it was time to transition to the hospital where I planned to birth.

Tiffany doesn’t have any agenda other than to best help mothers experience and prepare for the birth they envision for themselves. While I was excited to have a child, I very rarely enjoyed being pregnant. I was physically ill and emotionally depressed throughout most of it. It was important to me that a doula be understanding and compassionate about this, and not be too ooey-gooey about pregnancy itself. Tiffany heard that loud and clear, and I never once felt that she believed I “should” be feeling anything other than how I honestly felt. She helped me to be honest and compassionate with myself both prior to and during the birth, which is incredibly important for any mother-to-be. My husband and I are so grateful to have had her in our lives surrounding the birth of our baby. We couldn’t recommend her more highly to other expecting mothers and families.” — Laura Johnson

“…Tiffany was encouraging, VERY knowledgeable and she really listened to me. Beyond just listening, during our prenatal appointments, she asked great questions to help me really decide what I wanted and to think ahead to scenarios or decisions I had not considered. It really helped me mentally prepare for labor. When I wasn’t sure what I wanted, she helped me think through the pros and cons of each decision in a diplomatic way. Once she understood what I wanted, she was 100% supportive and empowering.

During labor, she knew just what I needed throughout the process. She was readily available and a solid support person. She was with me through every contraction, encouraging me and helping me focus on the right thing. She knew which technique I needed at each moment to help me promote labor and endurance. She offered emotional, physical and spiritual support into the wee hours of the morning. She encouraged my husband and I to connect and work together throughout the labor process. I was wonderful to have her come visit me and offer additional support at home after my baby was born. Labor was HARD and I can’t imagine doing it without Tiffany there to help me. I have a happy, healthy baby boy and the memory of a wonderful birth experience. THANK YOU, TIFFANY! I am forever grateful!”  — Ashley Banks

VBAC Support ~

“I had a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) with my second daughter. I was adamant about having a medication free, all natural birth… I got what I wanted thanks to Tiffany. Throughout the entire process, she was super supportive. She helped me focus on my breathing. I felt no pain, only pressure. I feel very fortunate for having such an awesome birthing experience. To this day, I still reminisce about it as being one of my best achievements.

I really couldn’t have done it without Tiffany’s guidance. She kept me on track. She talked me through some really hard things during labor, and I never got to the panic stage because she didn’t let me get there. She helped me look at things from a different perspective, helping me get calm, but she was also real about it.

I am so thankful that she was available. She is sweet, kind, sincere. She visited me a week later and was so encouraging. I called her weeks later when I had postpartum depression. On short notice, she dropped what she was doing and was at my apartment with her kids and she took me to an intake appointment while she watched my newborn and 1 year old. I am so grateful. Tiffany cares and she is a wonderful person, a wonderful doula.” –MJ Buganan

Childbirth Classes

childbirth-class-couples

The six-week Birth Informed Childbirth Class is comprehensive, engaging, evidence-based preparation for labor, birth, and early parenting.  Using a wide variety of teaching methods and activities, the aim is to help you and your partner to identify your needs and desires, and empower you to make informed decisions.  While many of the mothers who choose to take this class are preparing for an un-medicated birth, this is not a “natural childbirth class”.  This is a class that helps you understand the process of labor, and helps you develop skills and understanding to work through the process.  These skills include labor coping skills, as well as decision-making tools, mental frameworks, and personal reflection on your own best ways of coping and communicating.  We address all birthing environments (home, hospital, or birth center), and typical practices of care providers (nurses, and midwives or doctors) according to the birthing locations of the couples in the class.

Your childbirth classes will provide:

  • Knowledge about the physiological and hormonal dance of birth
  • Interactive exploration of coping skills: breathing, visualizations, labor positions, massage, comfort measures
  • Physical practice of various skills and positions in class, and helps to practice new skills at home
  • Evidence-based information about medical interventions, along with benefits, risks, and alternatives
  • Breastfeeding and postpartum preparation
  • 110 page Study Guide full of information, photos, anecdotes, and encouragement
  • Exploration of the connection you and your partner have with each other, and with your baby
  • The opportunity to connect with other expecting couples and engage in community

This is a class that keeps you involved!  You will walk away with a solid understanding of the birth process, and the necessary tools and information to work through your birth, however it may unfold.
